They include Terri Ross, running for County Clerk; Karen Bunn, candidate for District Clerk; Cheryl Taylor, candidate for Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace; Pct. 4 County Comm. Mike Spencer; and County Judge Dean Fowler, both seeking reelection.
Deadline for filing is 6 p.m. Dec. 9, and candidates wanting to file for the GOP primary should call Mrs. Ridgeway at 903-968-6822.
Upshur County Democratic Party Chairman Dan Miles Jr. was unavailable for comment Monday on whether anyone has filed to run for county office in his party’s primary.
Upshur County Libertarian Party Chairman Vance Lowry said Monday nobody has announced their candidacy for his party’s nominations for county office.
However, former County Clerk Peggy LaGrone, who is running to regain her old job, was to announce Tuesday night at the local Libertarians’ monthly meeting whether she will run as a Republican, Democrat, Libertarian or independent. (In the past, she has run as a Republican.)
Several other candidates for elective office have filed documents with the County Clerk’s Office designating campaign treasurers, but those papers do not show which, if any, political primary they are running in.
