Attorney General Abbott Criticizes the Obama Administration’s Attempts to Circumvent Recent Voting Rights Act Decision by the U.S. Supreme Court

Statement by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott on protecting Texas elections

“The Obama administration's attempt to assert control over Texas elections is an affront to the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision and is hostile to the Constitution. The Supreme Court already has approved voter identification laws and the Obama administration shouldn't deny in Texas what is allowed across the country. Election fraud is real and voter identification is one way to stop it. The Texas redistricting maps are based on maps drawn by three federal judges and are free from any suggestion of discriminatory intent. On both voter ID and redistricting, the Supreme Court has ruled in Texas' favor, and we will continue to seek protection from the land's highest court from overreaching federal government action.”
