Tyler, Texas, March 28, 2013 –Better Business Bureau serving Central East Texas is part of an expansive network of local BBBs across North America that collaborates to produce this bi-annual shred day event. The program is a BBB-branded identity theft, fraud prevention and educational initiative that features on-site document destruction and distribution of identity protection tips and resources to local communities.

“Over fifty percent of identity theft victims traced the theft to something which was stolen from their possession, so protecting our identities is largely in our own hands”, said Mechele Agbayani Mills, President and CEO of BBB Serving Central East Texas. “BBB Shred Day is an opportunity for local consumers and businesses to take some proactive measures to prevent identity theft and help the environment through free on-site document shredding, as well as paper, cell phone and computer recycling”.

On Saturday, April 20, businesses and individuals can shred up to three hundred pounds of paper per vehicle at no charge at the next BBB ‘Shred Day’ at the BBB Tyler offices at 3600 Old Bullard Rd. Ark La Tex Shredding, STS Electronic Recycling and Allied Waste Systems are generously donating their shredding, data destruction and cardboard disposal services for the event.

Shredder trucks will be on hand from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Information on identity theft protection also will be available.
