The University Interscholastic League has placed the Gilmer Buckeyes in 4A Division II District 5 for football for the next two seasons. Other schools in the district are the Bullard Panthers, Canton Eagles, Emory Rains Wildcats, Nevada Community Braves and Melissa Cardinals.

Start building up your travel budgets, Buckeye fans. According to Google Maps, Melissa is 116 miles from Gilmer, Nevada Community is 97 miles, Canton 71, Emory Rains 57 and Bullard 55.

In basketball, Gilmer and Bullard are still in District 16 with the following more familiar schools - Gladewater, Kilgore, Longview Spring Hill and Tyler Chapel Hill.

Crew: Chuck Licata, Merle Bertrand, BJ Walters, Trey Grubb This is one of the biggest UIL realignments & reclassifications in Texas history. There was a Class 6A introduced and UIL has pre-released the classification numbers as they pertain to enrollment. The guys talked to UIL officials after informing everyone of the news at 9 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014.
