CAMP HUAWNI LAUNCHES NEW WEBSITE BRINGING SUMMER CAMP TO LIFE ONLINE
Experts at simple fun and meaningful relationships, Camp Huawni utilizes seasoned counselors (averaging 7.4 years of experience at Huawni) with storied tradition to create an over-the-top overnight Texas summer camp experience.
Timpson, TX (November 5, 2012) Camp Huawni, an established East Texas overnight summer camp, today announces the launch of CampHuawni.com, a unique online experience for kids grades K-12 and their parents who are looking for a life-changing summer camp experience. The new site shares a fresh perspective on the value of summer camp for children through videos and story-telling photos. The site also displays a fun, interactive session-planning tool, a special section for parents, a special section for preparing for camp, and an all-encompassing news page that keeps you up to date with all things that embody Camp Huawni. There’s also an alumni section with video interviews from Camp Huawni alumni.
Interesting Facts About Camp Huawni:
Campers rated their counselors a 4.7 out of a 5 point scale in 2012.
3 to 1 camper to counselor ratio.
50+ activities and events for kids.
8 out of 10 counselors were on staff the previous summer.
Huawni counselors have been a part of Huawni an average of 7.4 years.
90% of two-week campers return to experience Huawni summer after summer.
One key ingredient that makes Camp Huawni unique is the quality of the counseling staff. Founder Mr. Earl Adams often said, “Hire counselors you want your kids to grow up to be like.” That wisdom is carried on today in Camp Huawni’s hiring process, as only 7.7% of new staff applicants are hired to be on the Huawni Staff.
Why is a wholesome summer camp experience so important? Simply put, kids need role models. Recently, the U.S. Department of Justice found that when youth had role models, such as in their Big Brother/Big Sister program, their chances of initiating drug use dropped by 45.8%, and their tendency to lie to their parents dropped by 36.6%.
How It Works:
Camp Huawni’s mission is to love the kids. It’s a simple but robust calling, and they reach it in part by matching outstanding, college-aged role models with younger kids and putting them in a simple, non-busy environment. Even though there’s a structured schedule behind the scenes, Huawni’s daily goal is to create a seamless and free-flowing environment for the kids so that they feel comfortable, spontaneous, and at home. The result is a lifetime of memories, life-long friendships, and a sense of, as one parent recently put it, “belonging.”

In 1965, Earl Adams, or "Daddy Earl" as he is known at Camp Huawni, strolled down a school hallway in Henderson, Texas, and said to himself, "Hmmm…I wish my students could experience something where they weren't so tied down - a place where they truly could be themselves." So, he cut some logs, built a few cabins, dug a huge hole for a swimming pool…and his kids camp, Camp Huawni, was born. Mr. Adams, along with his wife Retha, was a lifelong educator in the Henderson school district, serving as a high school teacher, principal, head varsity football coach, and eventually superintendent. Mr. and Mrs. Adams’ legacy continues today as Camp Huawni strives to be what campers call their “second home.”
