ETBU Homecoming 2013, October 18-20
MARSHALL, Texas (9/23/13) – East Texas Baptist University will be holding Homecoming 2013, October 18-20, 2013.
“New events are planned this year, like our Tiger/Cub Club Carnival, Blue Revue and tailgating at Tyler Alley before the football game,” said ETBU Director of Alumni Relations Allison Peteet. “In our planning, we have kept some old favorite activities like the Late Night Breakfast on Friday in the Bennett Student Commons and the Homecoming Parade traveling on Tiger Drive, as well as, the Saturday family picnic.”
The official start of the homecoming weekend is on Friday, October 18 at 10:00 a.m. in Baker Auditorium of the Ornelas Spiritual Life Center. Alumni Awards and the Golden Blazer Ceremony will highlight the Chapel service.
The venue for the Golden Lightkeepers Luncheon at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, will be the Edwards Conference Room located inside the Ornelas Spiritual Life Center. The presentation of “Golden Lightkeepers” medallions will occur during the luncheon. The medallions will be given to graduates of 50 years or more and the class of 1963 will be honored this year.
Other activities on Friday, will be the “42” tournament in the Huffman Activities Area on the first floor of the Ornelas Student Center; Department of Communication Studies Open House, first floor of Scarborough Hall; Department of Behavioral Science Open House, first floor of Marshall Hall; Class of 1963 Reception, Cornish Great Groom, Ornelas Student Center; Dedication of the Senior Gift given by the Class of 2013, Entrance of the Hill on Rainey Street; Faculty Reception, Heritage Room, Jarrett Library; Class of 1963 Dinner, Woods Great Room, Ornelas Student Center; Blue Revue: A Fine Arts Showcase, Baker Auditorium, Ornelas Spiritual Life Center, Late Night Breakfast, Bennett Student Commons; and Tiger Pep Rally and Bonfire, Ornelas Gym, then behind Ornelas Residence Hall.
“Everyone will like the new Blue Revue event,” said Peteet. “The Blue Revue will showcase our Fine Arts students and will be a variety show. The Tiger/Cub Carnival will appeal to alum with young children held Saturday afternoon before the football game. This carnival will be a fun, safe place for the children to play.”
Activities on Saturday, October 19, Golden Blazer Breakfast, Bennett Student Commons; Class Reunions and brunch for the classes of 1963, 1973, 1988 in the Ornelas Student Center; School of Business Open House, Fred Hale School of Business; Family Picnic, Bennett Student Commons; Tiger/Cub Club Carnival, Intramural Field; Young Alum Reunion, 2003 Honor Class, Intramural Field; and Campus Wide Tailgating in Tiger Alley.
The Homecoming Parade on Saturday morning will feature many floats made by students. The parade will start on campus at 11:00 a.m. and travel down Tiger Drive.
The ETBU Tigers will play Hardin-Simmons University at 6:00 p.m. in the homecoming football game at Ornelas Stadium. The “Coming Home Queen” ceremony will be held during pregame activities. The Homecoming King and Queen will be announced during halftime activities, along with a performance from the Tiger Marching Band.
A special alumni worship service will be held on Sunday, October 20. The service will be held in the Lampsato Chapel on the second floor of the Ornelas Student Center at 9:00 a.m.Events like the Golden Lightkeepers Luncheon, Class of 1963 Dinner, Late Night Breakfast, ETBU Family Picnic, and Campus Wide Tailgating require advance tickets to be purchased by Monday, October 7.
