ETBU To Hold UIL Practice Meet to Find The Best High School Mathematics Student in East Texas

MARSHALL - East Texas Baptist University is seeking out “The Best Mathematics Student in East Texas” among area high schools. The Department of Mathematics will be hosting a UIL Math and Science practice meet on Saturday, February 2, 2013. High school students can compete in the areas of Number Sense, Calculator, Math, and Science.

            “This will be a great opportunity for area high school students to prepare themselves for the upcoming UIL competitions,” said Dr. Marty Warren, ETBU Professor of Mathematics and coordinator for the practice meet. “The top student who competes in all three math tests and enrolls at ETBU as a math major will be awarded an Apple iPad and a $16,000 ETBU scholarship.”

            Tests will be ordered from the Texas Math and Science Coaches Association and will cost five dollars per test. The schedule for the morning is as follows: Number Sense, 9:00 a.m.; Calculator, 9:20 a.m., Math, 10:00 a.m., and Science, 11:00 a.m. All tests will be administered in Meadows Hall on the ETBU campus.  The Ornelas Student Center will be open to students between tests.
