East Texas Communities Foundation Announces

Scholarships Available for East Texas Students

 

 

TYLER, Texas – January 6, 2014East Texas Communities Foundation is currently accepting applications from East Texas students for its thirty-nine scholarship funds. Deadline for submission is March 3, 2014 at 5:00 p.m., unless noted otherwise. All applications and supporting documents must be submitted online. A student may apply for every scholarship for which he or she meets the eligibility requirements. Applicants should complete a unique application for each scholarship. Detailed eligibility criteria and links to the applications are available under the “Scholarships / Students / Student Guide and Available Scholarships” tab of the ETCF website at http://www.etcf.org/pages/scholarships/students/student-guide-and-available-scholarships.

 

Three new scholarships were established this year:

 

Art Excellence Scholarship: For art majors, preferably non-traditional students, at the University of Texas at Tyler. Amount: $500

 

Ben and Florine Ramsey Scholarship: For graduating seniors or prior graduates of San Augustine High School. Amount: $750

 

Glenn and Vivian Prater Memorial Scholarship: For an Eagle Scout graduated or graduating from a high school in East Texas and Liberty County, TX who has been accepted to or is currently attending Texas A&M University. Amount: $500

 

Other scholarships also being offered this year are:

 

David G. and Jacqueline M. Braithwaite Scholarship for Vocational/Technical Study in Medically Related Fields: For East Texas students pursuing a vocational/technical associate’s degree or certificate in a medically related field. Amount: $1,500.00 - renewable for the length of the program

 

David G. and Jacqueline M. Braithwaite Scholarship in Chemistry: For East Texas graduating seniors majoring in chemistry. Amount: $3,000.00 - renewable for a total of 4 years

 

David G. and Jacqueline M. Braithwaite Scholarship in Medicine, Biotechnology, and Veterinary Medicine: For East Texas graduating seniors who plan to major in biology, mathematics, engineering or a related field which will allow them to pursue a career as a doctor, dentist, veterinarian, or biotechnologist. Amount: $3,000.00 - renewable for a total of 4 years

 

J.M. Braithwaite TJC Nursing Scholarship: For East Texas students pursuing a nursing degree at Tyler Junior College. Amount:$1,000.00 – renewable for the length of the program

 

Dr. Elbert H. Caldwell Scholarship: For an East Texas resident wishing to pursue a career in a medically related field, with a preference for nursing. Amount:$2,500.00 - renewable

 

East Texas Geological Society Scholarship: For students pursuing an undergraduate or master’s degree in geology in the State of Texas. Must be a sophomore, or higher, in college at time of application. Amount: $1,500.00 - renewable for a total of 2 years

 

Winifred George Scholarship: For a graduating senior from a Smith County high school attending Abilene Christian University. Amount: $1,000.00 - renewable for a total of 4 years

 

J.L. Gulley, Jr. Texas Tech Scholarship: Fora graduating senior or a previous graduate from a high school in East Texas or Quanah, TX who plans to attend Texas Tech University. Amount: $5,000 -renewable for a total of 4 years

 

Richard B. and Mary Lou Hamm Scholarship: For Bullard High School graduating seniors planning to attend the University of Texas at Tyler. Amount: $1,000.00 - renewable for a total of 4 years

 

Allen and Nancy Locklin Scholarship: For graduating seniors from Smith County attending the University of Texas at Tyler. Amount: $2,000 – renewable for a total of 5 years

 

Gladys and Thomas “TB” Stewart Scholarship: For graduating seniors from Smith County and surrounding high schools. Amount: $2,000.00 - renewable for a total of 4 years

 

Adam Carroll Scholarship: For a Grand Saline High School graduating senior who has participated in high school athletics or cheerleading (Van Zandt, Wood or Smith County only). Amount: $500.00

 

Citizens 1st Bank/Perkins Family Foundation Scholarship: For children of State of Texas employees who are residents of Cherokee, Nacogdoches or Smith County. Prior recipients may reapply.

Amount: $1,000.00

 

Betty and Roy Erickson Scholarship: For graduating seniors from East Texas high schools with all “A” averages. Amount: $1,000.00

 

Alex Fleming Infinity Scholarship: For a graduating senior from Whitehouse High School who has participated in band for four years. Amount: $1,500.00

 

Tim King Memorial Scholarship: For a graduating senior from Robert E. Lee H.S. in Tyler who plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin and major in business.Amount: $2,500.00

 

Lauren Lewis Scholarship: For a graduating senior from Robert E. Lee High School or All Saints Episcopal School of Tyler who is accepted to attend Texas A&M University. The deadline for this scholarship is April 1. Amount: $1,000.00

 

Juliette Low's Amazing Girls Scholarship:For a female student who is a graduating senior from a Smith County high school and who was involved in Girl Scouting.Amount: $1,000.00

 

Christopher Lyon Memorial Scholarship: For art majors at the University of Texas at Tyler.

Amount: $1,000.00

 

Natural Gas Society of East Texas Scholarship: For State of Texas college students at the undergraduate or graduate level who have declared a major which directly relates to the energy industry. Amount: $1,000.00

 

Gary Neel Memorial Scholarship: For a Robert E. Lee High School graduating senior who will be attending the University of Texas at Austin. Amount: $2,500.00

 

Partners in Arts Scholarship: For Smith County graduating seniors planning on pursuing a degree in one of the performing or visual arts. Amount: $1,000.00

 

Leslie Reid Memorial Scholarship: For any female Henderson County graduating senior who has participated in horse shows. Amount: $1,000.00

 

Retail Merchants Association Scholarship: For graduating seniors from Smith County and select surrounding high schools who plan to major in business. Amount: $1,000.00

 

Samsung Scholarship: For graduating seniors from Tyler ISD and Marshall ISD. Amount: $8,000

 

Samsung Math Science Technology Scholarship: For graduating seniors from Tyler ISD and Marshall ISD majoring in math, science, or technology. Amount: $8,000

 

Samsung Football Scholarship: For a graduating senior from Tyler ISD or Marshall ISD who is a member of the football team. Amount: $5,000

 

Kristen and Joey Seeber Scholarship: For a graduating senior from Robert E. Lee High School or John Tyler High School. Amount: $500.00

 

Sharyland Utilities Scholarship: For a graduating senior from select high schools in Hunt, Collin, and Fannin County, Texas who plans to major in engineering. Amount: $400.00

 

Smith County Baptist Ministers Scholarship: For dependent children of ordained ministers serving congregations that are members of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Prior recipients may reapply. Amount: To be determined

 

Gerald and Charlie Stoker Memorial Scholarship: For a graduating senior from Winnsboro High School. Amount: $500.00

 

Texas Rose Festival Scholarship: For a graduating senior at a Smith County high school or a current college student who graduated from a Smith County school. Amount: $350.00

 

Tyler Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association Scholarship: For children of current employees of the City of Tyler Police Department. Prior recipients may reapply. Amount: $5,000.00

 

Sherilyn A. Willis, M.D. Medical Scholarship: For a student attending medical school in the State of Texas. Amount: $500.00

 

A.D. and Mary Winston Scholarship: For a Smith County public school graduating senior planning to attend Texas A&M University. Amount: $1,000.00

 

Tiffany Lynn Zanolini Memorial Scholarship: For a female graduating senior at a Smith County high school who has participated in varsity soccer. Amount: $1,000.00
