East Texas Police Academy passes annual inspection
|Report boasts 99 percent pass rate on state exam|
In the report delivered to the academy Aug. 9, TCOLE noted that the ETPA had also maintained a 99.23 percent pass/fail rate for the last three years for the academy’s Basic Peace Officer Course.
Out of 622 students over the three-year period, 618 passed the state exam on the first attempt.
“When you look at the performance of academies located at colleges and universities throughout the state, the East Texas Police Academy is certainly a leader when it comes to the pass rates for candidates taking the exam for the first time,” said Dr. Bill Holda, KC President. “We are very proud of the exemplary performance of the East Texas Police Academy and we congratulate them for their achievements.”
The ETPA also had a 93.47 percent pass/fail rate over the same three-year period for the Basic County Corrections Officer Licensing Course.
In addition to the Basic Peace Officer and Basic County Corrections Officer courses, the ETPA conducts continuing education courses for several law enforcement agencies throughout East Texas, especially the nine counties of the ArkTex Council of Governments region and the 14 counties of the East Texas Council of Governments region.
The report also noted that the ETPA had advanced technologically through its addition of distance learning, creating a “virtual classroom” for students to receive training at their computer rather than being in a classroom.
Training Coordinator for the ETPA is Brian Ruthven and Deputy Director is Michael Ferguson.
