The first of the "Southern Cross and Memorial" services, carried out by groups including the Upshur County Patriots of Gilmer, will honor Pvt. John Lenard Morgan at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Bryans Mill.
Ceremonies honoring Ms. Fountain's great-great-great grandfather, Pvt. James Bell, Sr.; along with brothers Pvts. George W. Black and Robert Black, are set for 2 p.m. at the Bell Cemetery just west of Bryans Mill.
Ms. Fountain will help unveil the three veterans' markers at that ceremony, and will read the Blacks' biographies.
Members of General Walter P. Lane Camp, No. 1455, Longview, will conduct the reenactment with Honor Guard First Sgt. Paul Hamilton commanding. Among other participating groups will be the Lone Star Confederate Color Guard.
A noon luncheon will be held in between the two ceremonies for Civil War reenactors and the press at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Directions to Bryans Mill: If going west from Douglassville on Hwy. 77, turn right (north) on CR 994 to Bryans Mill; if going east on FM Hwy. 77 from Naples, turn left (north) on to CR 1766 at Dalton to Bryans Mill. CR 1766 intersects 994 at Bryans Mill.
