Southwest Junior College Football Conference champion Navarro will face a familiar foe when it faces Georgia Military in the Dec. 1 C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl in Copperas Cove.

The fifth-ranked Bulldogs (9-2), led by quarterback Stump Godfrey of Gilmer, will play 20th-ranked Georgia Military (7-3) for the 12th straight season, including twice in bowl games. Navarro defeated GMC 24-21 in the 2007 Pilgrim’s Pride Bowl when current Bulldog Head Coach Brian Mayper was an assistant on Ray Woodard’s staff.

Navarro has won the last eight straight meetings with Georgia Military, dating back to 2004. Navarro won last year’s meeting 29-18 on the road. Navarro leads the all-time series 10-4.

This year the Heart of Texas Bowl will feature two games.

Navarro’s game kicks off at 11 a.m. followed by an NCAA Division II game betwen McMurry and Southern Arkansas kicking off at 7 p.m.

Reserved tickets are $20, General Admission tickets are $10.

The C.H.A.M.P.S. Heart of Texas Bowl was founded by Copperas Cove head coach and athletic director Jack Welch. “It gives us an opportunity to showcase our town and our school…I think anytime you can draw people into Copperas Cove and show them the good things here, it just adds that much more to our community.”
