Guilty pleas heard in court

Twenty-seven guilty pleas, most of them drug- or alcohol-related, were heard in 115th District Court in Gilmer between July 5 and 16. Three motions to revoke probation were also heard before District Judge Lauren Parish, who presided and pronounced sentence.

Guilty pleas included:

• Fred Douglas Godlock, 42, Gladewater, delivery of a controlled substance, a state jail felony. He received 15 months in a state jail. Upshur County District Attorney Billy Byrd was prosecutor, and David Griffith was defense attorney.

• David Abe Whitfield, 57, Gilmer, driving while intoxicated-subsequent offense, a third-degree felony. He received three years in prison. Byrd was prosecutor, and Charles Van Cleef was defense attorney.

• Mark Allen Denham, 46, Diana, retaliation, a third-degree felony. He got six years in prison. Byrd was prosecutor, and Barry Wallace was defense attorney.

• Susan Elaine Levy, 44, Gladewater, possession of a controlled substance-cocaine in a drug-free zone, a third-degree felony. She received seven years in prison. Assistant District Attorney Edward Choy was prosecutor, and Craig Bass was defense attorney.

• Lori Fields, 29, Gilmer, delivery of a controlled substance-alprazolam, a state jail felony. She received 10 months in a state jail. Choy was prosecutor, and her attorney was Wallace.

• Stephen Mark Turner, 45, Gladewater, forgery, a state jail felony. He got nine months in the Upshur County Jail. Choy prosecuted the case, and Van Cleer was defense attorney.

• Ted DeMarcus McDonald, 25, Gilmer, credit card abuse, a state jail felony. He received two years in a state jail, probated for five years. He was also ordered to pay $3,616 in restitution, was fined $500, and ordered to perform 400 hours of community service. Choy was prosecutor, and Van Cleef was defense attorney.

• Danna Collins, 21, Gilmer, delivery of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, a state jail felony. She received two years in a state jail, probated for three years. Choy was prosecutor, and Wallace was defense attorney.

• Dedrick Marquez Brown, 38, Gilmer, possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, a state jail felony. He received two years in a state jail, probated for five years. He was also fined $750 and ordered to do 400 hours of community service. Choy was prosecutor, and Bass was defense attorney.

• Sean David Pike, 36, Big Sandy, forgery, a state jail felony. He received 18 months in a state jail. Choy was prosecutor, and Scott Novy was defense attorney.

• Steven Ray Morrow, 48, Big Sandy, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felony, a second-degree felony. He received 20 years in prison, to run concurrently with a conviction for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, a state jail felony, for which he received a 2-year sentence. Choy was prosecutor, and Novy was defense attorney.

• Wilbert “OJ” Simmons, 47, Gilmer, possession of cocaine with intent to deliver, a second-degree felony. He received 12 years in prison. Choy prosecuted the case, and Novy was defense attorney.

• Jimmy Junior Laymance, 40, Gilmer, sexual assault, a second-degree felony. He received 10 years in prison and must register for life as a sex offender. Byrd was prosecutor, and Tim Cone was defense attorney.

• Levi Gene Long, 19, Gilmer, assault against a public servant, a third-degree felony. He received five years deferred adjudication probation. Long was also fined $500 and ordered to perform 300 hours of community service. He must also write a letter of apology to his victim within 60 days. Byrd was prosecutor, and Matthew Patton was defense attorney.

• Kimberly Ridings, 49, Winnsboro, arson, a second-degree felony. She got four years in prison for burning down her sister’s restaurant (see separate story). Byrd was prosecutor, and Bass was defense attorney.

• Tonya Carleen Montgomery, 41, Kilgore, possession of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, a state jail felony. She received two years deferred adjudication probation. Byrd was prosecutor, and Cone was defense attorney.

• David Floyd McWhorter III, 20, Hawkins, having a prohibited substance in a correctional facility, a third-degree felony. He got eight years in prison. He also had his probation revoked on a charge of burglary of a habitation, a second-degree felony. His 8-year sentence for that will run concurrently with the prohibited substance sentence. Choy was prosecutor, and Patton was defense attorney.

• Ray Aldon Bright, 66, Walnut Springs, cruelty to animals, a state jail felony. He received 14 months in a state jail. Choy prosecuted the case, and Dwight Brannon was defense attorney.

• Boyd Everett Payne, 34, Ore City, possession of methamphetamine, a state jail felony. He also had his probation revoked on the same charge. He received 18 months in a state jail on each charge, to run concurrently. Byrd was prosecutor, and Griffith was defense attorney.

• Cassie Dawn Parker, 30, White Oak, intoxicated assault with a deadly weapon, a third-degree felony. She received five years in prison. Byrd was prosecutor, and Lance Larison was defense attorney.

• Byron Gene Johnson, 63, Kilgore, theft of property worth between $1,500 and $20,000, a state jail felony. He received two years in prison, probated for four years. He was also ordered to pay $3,400 in restitution to his victims and perform 300 hours of community service. Byrd was prosecutor, and John Moore was defense attorney.

• Justin Edward Reynolds, 22, Gilmer, delivery of methamphetamine, a state jail felony. He received two years in prison, probated for five years. He was also fined $1,000 and ordered to perform 400 hours of community service. Choy was prosecutor, and Wallace was defense attorney.

• Philip Ronald Morrow, 43, possession of methamphetamine, a state jail felony. He got two years deferred adjudication probation. He was also fined $500 and ordered to perform 300 hours of community service. Choy was prosecutor, and Brannon was defense attorney.

• Larek Antwan Tave, 26, Gilmer, delivery of a controlled substance-methamphetamine, a state jail felony. He received five years deferred adjudication probation. He also was fined $1,500 and ordered to do 400 hours of community service. Choy was prosecutor, and Moore was defense attorney.

• Loyd Donald Adcock, 40, Gilmer, possession of methamphetamine, a state jail felony. He received three years deferred adjudication probation. He was also fined $500 and ordered to do 240 hours of community service. Choy prosecuted the case, and Brannon was defense attorney.

In addition to the one already referenced, motions to revoke probation included:

• Traci Michelle Beck, 28, Longview, possession of chemicals with intent to manufacture a controlled substance, a second-degree felony. She received a 5-year prison sentence. Choy was prosecutor, and Van Cleef was defense attorney.
