At Friday’s Homecoming pep rally, students of Harmony High School found out the total they had raised in a challenge given to them by their principal, Dennis Glenn.

Last week Glenn met with the Student Council officers to devise a plan to raise money to help the victims of the Rhonesboro fire. At the meeting, the students decided to challenge the classes to come up with various ways to raise $1,000 in three days.

During last week’s pep rally, Glenn issued the challenge the officers had devised to the entire student body.

The students rose to the occasion through activities such as bake sales, the sale of breakfast burritos, a pancake breakfast, drawings and many other creative ways to show support for those affected by the fire. The students surpassed their goal of $1,000 in three days. At the end of the school day on Wednesday, the high school student body had raised $13,303.

The students were not alone in their efforts. Many community members also contributed to the fund-raising efforts.

Glenn and the Student Council hope to undertake another fund-raising activity as part of next year’s Homecoming festivities, making this a Harmony Homecoming tradition.
