Lady Buckeyes win volleyball honors

Gilmer’s Shaylee Fennell and Kenya Nix received superlative recognition when the District 16-3A Volleyball All District selections were announced this week.

Fennell shared the Most Outstanding Setter honors with Spring Hill’s Jerri Bass.

Nix received the nod as the Outstanding Defensive Specialist.

All of the superlatives were shared among the three teams which qualified for the playoffs, with Spring Hill’s Savannah Voelzke leading the way as the Most Valuable Player.

She was joined by Spring Hill’s T’Asia Black as the Top Blocker, Bass, and Coach Karen Burndrett as the Coach of the Year.

Carthage’s Sara Williams captured the Top Hitter nod, as well as having the Newcomer of the Year in Kenzie Tate.

Additional recognition went to Lady Buckeyes in the first and second teams All District and in the Academic All District team.

Katelin Sikes was the only member of the Lady Buckeye to make the First Team All District, while Morgan Williams made the second team.

Honorable Mention went to Jasmin Jones, Sassy Meadows, Maci Ritter and Mikayla Sikes.

All Academic Team recognition went to Fennell, Meadows, Nix, K. Sikes, M. Sikes, Williams, Chelsea Miears, Jessie Jacoby and Angela “Gigi” Oglesby.
