American Legion R.E. "Peppy" Blount Post No. 320 in Gilmer will hold a flag disposal ceremony for worn or damaged American flags at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Senior Citizens Center, 201 Silver Alley.

The flags will be burned in accordance with governmental code, said legion Sgt.-At-Arms Jimmy Sanders. Gilmer High School Jr. ROTC Cadets will assist with the ceremony, to which the public is invited, and refreshments will be served.

The Cadets will also post colors and perform a flag folding ceremony.

All worn and torn flags may be dropped off at five local locations: Baker's Cleaners, Gilmer Computer Tech, Gilmer Drug, the Senior Citizens Center, and Williams Furniture Co.

Those with such flags may also contact local American Legion commander Jerry Holsworth at 843-4324 or Sanders at 918-6876 for more information.

In other American Legion-related news, the Cruiser Car Club and O'Reilly Auto Car Show is set April 13 to raise funds for the legion's health fair for veterans, scheduled July 20.

Sanders said the fair will cost the local legion post about $1,500. For more information on the car show at O'Reilly Auto Parts at 1001 N. Wood (U.S. 271), contact car club President Brenda Jeffery at (903) 790-7203.
