Six East Texas cities have been featured “A to Z” in photo books for children and donated to the public libraries in Gladewater, Winnsboro, Gilmer, Kilgore, Longview and Tyler.

A to Z In My City is the creation of Gladewater resident, Colleen Bailey.  The inspiration for the project came while she served as story time coordinator for Lee Public Library in Gladewater from 2008-2010.  Colleen wanted the young children to learn about their city in a fun way.  Many of the photos were taken by the story time participants.  Gladewater businesses supported her early work by donating copies to each kindergarten classroom at the Gladewater ISD Gay Avenue campus in 2010.

Next, a Winnsboro resident saw Colleen’s work and commissioned her to photograph that community.  In the fall of 2011, A to Z In My City: Winnsboro was finished and given to EVERY kindergarten student at the Winnsboro Elementary campus due to the generosity of Winnboro resident, Peggy Ditto.

Since then, photo books have been completed for Gilmer, Kilgore, Longview and Tyler.  Colleen and her young son, Ryan who also takes pictures for the books, read during story time at the Longview Public Library in November, 2012 when that city was finished.  They will read their Tyler photo book at the Tyler Public Library this summer.
