Texarkana ISD teacher elected to TCTA Council
AUSTIN—Tonya Dumdei, a special education teacher at Nash Elementary School in the Texarkana Independent School District, has been elected to a two-year term as district 8 director for the Texas Classroom Teachers Association. Her term will begin June 1, 2012. Elections were held in February at TCTA's annual convention in Houston. Founded in 1927, TCTA is an independent, nonunion association for Texas teaching professionals, which serves 50,000 members across the state.
The Texarkana ISD teacher was elected by convention delegates from district 8, the East Texas area she will represent on the TCTA Directors’ Council. As a Council member, Dumdei will help set policy for the statewide association and assist leaders of TCTA local affiliates in her 11-county area.
A member of TCTA since 2000, Dumdei is also active locally in the Texarkana Classroom Teachers Association.
TCTA is based in Austin and is the only statewide teachers association that limits active level membership to those directly involved in classroom teaching or teaching support.
