Economic Populist For Governor

Campaign Kickoff

WHO:          Tom Wakely

WHAT:        Gubernatorial Campaign Kickoff

WHEN:      SaturdayOctober 14, 2017

                        3pm - 6pm

WHERE:     Mollberg Ranch

                        753 Divide Pass, Blanco, TX

WHY:           There are four critical concerns facing non-voting Texans today that are rarely talked about by Texas politicians. These issues have a tremendous impact on the everyday lives of Texans. To fight Income Inequality, Tom is calling for a raise in the state minimum wage to $15 an hour, repealing Texas’s anti-labor (so called “right-to-work”) laws and scrapping the Texas business franchise tax system in favor of a Business Income Tax. A close second is Healthcare. Texans need access to healthcare not access to health insurance. Tom supports the establishment of a statewide network of health clinics and hospitals similar to the VA healthcare system that Tom is a part of. If you have health insurance through your employer and our happy with it - keep it. If you have health insurance through the ACA and our happy with it - keep it. For everyone else, the statewide network of health clinics and hospitals that Tom proposes will be there for you. Tom advocates Gun Violence Prevention programs such as banning the sale and possession of military-style weapons like the AK-47 and AR-15 in Texas; repealing our state’s open-carry laws, limiting the number of handguns and long guns that a person can lawfully own, and requiring background checks at gun shows. Tom is a strong advocate for mitigating Global Warming through policies and practices such as instituting a carbon fee on the burning of carbon-based fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas). More to the point: a carbon tax is the core policy for reducing and eventually eliminating the use of fossil fuels whose combustion is destabilizing and destroying our climate. Additional steps such a banning fracking and flaring in Texas and requiring scrubbers on all cement factory smokehouses will lead to cleaner, healthier air for Texans as well as reducing carbon emissions.
