Saturday, April 1 – Lindsey Park, Tyler
Get Your Disc On!
(Tyler, TX) March 10, 2017
There’s nothing like a day at the park – except when that day is filled with jumping disc dogs, their trainers, and disc golf enthusiasts.
On Saturday, April 1 at 9am, simultaneous events will launch at Lindsey Park. At Soccer Field 12, more than 35 highly trained disc dogs from across the U.S. will be competing. Some of the best dogs in the world will compete, including Bill McFarlin’s high-jumping “Z” – now ranked 14th in the world.
“Z is a champion, there’s no doubt about that. But she’ll have her work cut out for her to beat some of these dogs that are coming. I know these dogs, and there are some amazing performers in the mix. They have flips and jumps, and great speed,” said Mr. McFarlin.
The Disc Dog competition will also include the People’s Choice Award – always a favorite event. This freestyle competition lets the dogs ‘dance to the music’ and show their best tricks.
This year, the disc dogs will be joined by disc golfers. The Rose City Golf Club is joining the event this year with morning and afternoon tournaments, plus a “How to Play Disc Golf” clinic and a “Closest to Pin” competition that will welcome audience members to try the game.
“Our Disc Golf players’ community is growing every season,” said Paul Owen, president of the Rose City Golf Club. This is a fun game that welcomes everyone – from those who don’t know how to throw to some of the best players in the game today.”
The Tyler Azalea Disc Dog and Disc Golf Championship is sponsored by the Humane Society’s Pets Fur People, and all proceeds will go to the non-profit, no-kill shelter.
“We remind everyone that Pets Fur People is ENTIRELY supported by tax-deductible public contributions – we receive no government support. And we are the ONLY brick-and-mortar no-kill shelter in East Texas. We hope this great family fun day will be a blessing to everyone,” said Gayle Helms, Executive Director of Pets Fur People.
Admission is free, although contributions at the gate will be enthusiastically received.
