Valentine’s Activities Planned

The First United Methodist Church of Gilmer will offer two seasonal events to help the local community celebrate Valentine’s Day.

On Friday, February 14, Valentine’s Day, the Youth group is sponsoring a Parents’ Night Out from 6:30 to 10:00 PM. Child care will be available for all children, ages infant through 5th grade. There will be trained nursery workers as well as adult and youth volunteers on hand to supervise a variety of age-appropriate games and activities.

The event will be located in the Education Wing and Nursery of the church building, where the children will be able to watch movies, play games, or even sit quietly and read a book in a nice, safe, supervised environment. Matthew Potter, Youth Director, said “We wanted to give the young families of Gilmer a place where they can know their children are safe and having fun. And then the parents can have a little time off as well. Have a great Valentine’s Day. Have fun.”

Parent’s Night Out is also an excellent fundraiser. Donations collected during Parent’s Night Out will be used to offset camp costs for the youth group.

Families do not have to be associated in any way with FUMC-Gilmer to participate in this event. Please call the church office at (903) 843-2610 for more details.

On Saturday, February 15, the church will sponsor an evening of dinner and dancing for couples and singles of all ages. Heart to Heart – Dinner and Dancing through the Decades. is open to the community. Child care for children from infants to 5th grade will be provided in the church nursery. The event will kick off at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday February 15th in the church Fellowship Hall.

A professional deejay will offer music suitable for dancing starting with songs from the era of the "Big Bands" through our current times. There will be music "through the decades for all ages and stages." The primary emphasis of the evening is on fun and fellowship, accompanied by dinner. Diane Chevalier, one of the planners of the event, said, “If you don’t like to dance, you can just slip out after dinner. No one will mind. And this event is not for couples only. Gather your girlfriends and come on out and have a good time with us. And if you’re a single guy, come on! There will be plenty of ladies looking for someone to dance.” Basic cost per person for dinner and dancing and childcare is only $15 per person.

Reservations are required so that sufficient food and childcare providers can be arranged. Look for our registration form in the Gilmer Mirror to register or call the church office at (903) 843-2610. Registrations must be received by February 9. Heart to Heart is sponsored by the FUMC United Methodist Men and the Women of Grace. These two groups meet monthly on the first Thursday of the month. We invite you to join us any time.
