Over 6 million Texans, a staggering 24 percent of the state’s population, do not have health insurance coverage. In Dallas County, 31 percent of our residents do not have employer-funded or personal health insurance. They are uninsured in part because the wage earner makes too much money for the family to qualify for Medicaid and too little to be eligible for tax credits now available in the 2014 health care marketplace.
