Women in Tyler was founded in 1999 as a way to celebrate Women’s History Month and to honor women who have contributed to the quality of life in our community. Each year, a planning committee has gathered to select women who are then honored at a celebratory luncheon held each March.
"What makes this celebration unique is its diversity and ability to bring the whole community together," said Daye Collins, who co-chairs the nomination committee. "It brings together women who might never know each other, from different professions and different social groups.”
Past honorees have included women who have made their mark in the arts, in business, through volunteerism, courage in the face of difficulty, in historic preservation, health care, education and many other areas.
"When women get together, good ideas come forth and good things happen," said Collins. "We want to recognize the women for their efforts and also encourage other women to make a difference."
The theme for the 2012 luncheon is “Women Who Give”. The luncheon will celebrate women who have given of the time, talent or financial resources to make Tyler a better place to live. The event will be held March 22nd at the Rose Garden Center. The doors open at 11 a.m. and the lunch and program start at 11:45 a.m.
Women in Tyler is not a fundraising endeavor. However, any excess funds that are raised are donated to the Women’s Fund established at the Fourth Partner Foundation. The fund is a grant-making source to support programs that benefit women and children in the Tyler area.
Reservations for this year’s luncheon have been sold out for several weeks now but we do encourage anyone wanting to participate to make a donation and join in our support to the Tyler community in the form of grant monies to the Women’s Fund; they may do so by mailing a check to: Women In Tyler – P.
