BJHS DUKE SCHOLARS

Eligibility for participation in the Duke Talent search is an honor that required exceptional academic ability, and we applaud all the students from BJHS who were recognized. The students who were named Duke Scholars were eligible to take the ACT or SAT test with juniors and seniors. McKenzie Castro and Tre Miller took the ACT test, and based on their qualifying scores, they were invited to attend a State Recognition Ceremony. McKenzie and Tre were among the top 38 percent of all 7th graders in the nation who took the ACT college entrance exam. This honor will afford them opportunities to participate in a wide range of educational programs including Independent Learning, eSeminars, and Scholar Weekends. Since they met the qualifying score criteria set by Duke, they will also receive information on Duke TIP's renowned summer programs.

Texas Weekly Gas Price Update and Outlook
May 20, 2013 | 72 views | 0 0 comments | 1 1 recommendations | email to a friend | print
Texas, May 20- Average retail gasoline prices in Texas have risen 3.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.42/g yesterday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 13,114 gas outlets in Texas. This compares with the national average that has increased 8.9 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.67/g, according to gasoline price website GasBuddy.com.

Including the change in gas prices in Texas during the past week, prices yesterday were 8.5 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 7.3 cents per gallon higher than a month ago. The national average has increased 16.6 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 3.0 cents per gallon lower than this day one year ago.

"The last seven days have delivered some shocks at the pump for motorists in the nation's Midwest," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. "I don't believe I've ever seen gasoline prices in the Midwest surpass California- areas of Nebraska, Minnesota, Oklahoma, North and South Dakota, and Kansas- have done that. Gas price records in these areas aren't being quietly replaced, they're being blown out of the water. I don't believe I've ever seen such crazy trends in gasoline prices occur all at one- prices spiking in one area, falling in another, and holding steady in others. What we're seeing today is certainly rare," DeHaan said.

About GasBuddy

GasBuddy operates TexasGasPrices.com and over 250 similar websites that track gasoline prices at over 140,000 gasoline stations in the United States and Canada. In addition, GasBuddy offers a free smartphone app which has been downloaded over 25 million times to help motorists find the lowest gasoline prices in their area.
