About 40 Gilmer High School juniors and seniors from Jessica Patterson’s Art classes crafted clay bowls as part of the local Empty Bowls Event, coming up this Saturday.

“Being a part of the Empty Bowls project was great for my students,” Ms. Patterson said. “It is important for them to have opportunities to use their creativity in ways that can help others. We look forward to participating in this community event on a larger scale next year.”

They gave special thanks to Bill Taylor, a local potter, who volunteered to fire the bowls for the students in his kiln.

Gilmont Camp and Conference Center will host the Empty Bowls event this coming Saturday, starting at 5 p.m.

The community is welcome to attend and enjoy music with The Majors, and a delicious bowl of hot soup.

Admission is $10 for ages 12 and over. Kids accompanied by an adult eat free. All proceeds will benefit Upshur County Shares Food Bank.

The local food bank is a nondenominational group, sponsored by the Upshur County Ministerial Alliance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing food to local residents.

The event is open to the public.

Tickets can be purchased at the Gilmer Area Chamber of Commerce on the square, at Gilmont, or call 903-797-6400.

Tickets may also be purchased at the door, but please call ahead.
