REGISTRATION UNDER WAY FOR LETOURNEAU SUMMER CAMPS FOR KIDS

 

            (LONGVIEW,

Texas)—Enrollment is under way for LeTourneau University’s 2011 Summer

Camps for students entering grades K-12.  Week-long academic and

athletic camps begin June 6 and run through August 5.

 These camps are designed to help students enjoy hands-on learning

opportunities throughout the summer.

            “LeTourneau

University is known for offering excellent academic and athletic camps

in a Christian environment,” said Marty Lane, director of Conference and

Event Services. The camp schedule and online

LETU is

offering a collection of camps in art, creativity, robotics, science,

skills, fun and sports. Popular drama and cinema camps taught by Doris

Collier include: “Camp’s Got Talent” July 18-22,

“Stage Struck” June 20-24, “Next Stop: Hollywood” June 13-17, “Movie

Makers” and “Stage Fun” June 27-July 1. Collier has been leading popular

summer campus at LETU for many years for grades K-12. 

Creativity

is promoted in camps that teach new skills, such as “A Picture is worth

1000 Words” June 20-24, “Imaginarium” July 11-15, “Tape Art” July

18-22, “Cool Creations” June 20-24, “Kids’ Architecture”

June 27-July 1  and “ Wild World of Arts & Crafts” July 11-15.

           LEGO® Robotics

camps will be guided again this year by the ever-popular Janice Park and

Paula Hjorth, both professional teachers of robotics. Due to high

demand, LETU has expanded robotic camp offerings

to include a second and third level for more advanced campers. LETU has

invested in new LEGO® equipment for these higher level camps. Another

new addition to our LEGO® camps this year will be “Lego: Battle Robots”

July 18-22, for a full day or half-day.

Several

science and space camps will be taught by returning camp instructor Lee

Wilkinson, including: "LeTourneau Space Camp" June 13-17 and June

27-July 1; “Slime Ka-Boom” June 20-24 and July 18-22,

“Incredible Stuff” June 20-24 and July 18-22, “More Incredible Stuff”

July 11-15.  This year a sister camp to Slime Ka-Boom called “More Super

Slime Ka-Boom” July 11-15 and another Space Camp “Space Camp Rocket

Summer” June 27-July 1 have been added for those

who wanted more from these popular camps. Wilkinson is an

Illinois-based professional camp director who travels all over the world

entertaining and educating children grades 2-8. Another popular science

camp instructor, Lance Homeniuk, will offer “Insane Science”

July 11-15 and “Jr. Engineers” July 11-15.

Professional

manners expert Amy Riestenberg will teach “Etiquette, Charm, and

Manners for Today’s Teen Girl” July 18-22 and “Say “No Thank you” to Bad

Manners!” Other skill camps include: “Basic

First Aid and Survival Skills” July 11-15, “Self Defense for Children”

June 6-10 and June 27- July 1 and “Introduction to Martial Arts” June

27-July 1.

The

always popular “Flight: Pre-Flight” and “Flight: Pilot” camps will be

available as well as “Police Academy” and “Police Academy 2” camps this

summer.

History

camps include “Ancient Egypt” July 18-22 and “Medieval Times” June

13-17. Other camps include a superheroes camp “Hero Clix Camp” June

13-17;  “Smorgasbord” June 13-17, and “Young Adventures”

June 6-10 and July 18-22 for the younger crowd.

Sports

camps for various ages and skill levels will include baseball, softball,

volleyball, basketball, and soccer camps, directed and instructed by

LETU coaches and student-athletes.  Sports camps

offer basic skill development and extend to teach the finer points of

the games, depending upon the skill levels of the campers.  One-on-one

instruction as well as team strategy is incorporated in all camps. 

LETU

sports camps are designed to instill a love for and appreciation of

sports and develop each camper’s personal skill levels.  Junior high and

high school campers will receive instruction aimed

at skill development for their school teams.
