THE GILMER KIWANIS CLUB is helping “Fill the Bus” with school supplies. On Monday, they donated more than 400 items to the drive sponsored by First National Bank of Gilmer. The goal of the drive, which continues through Aug. 15, is to make sure that all Upshur County children have adequate supplies to start the new school year. From left are George Wolfe, Barry Smith (who is both a Kiwanis member and an officer of First National Bank), Matt Johnson of the bank, Laura Yochum, Cynthia Clark, Sara Allen and Jeannie Smith of the bank, and Chris Norwood. The Kiwanis Club challenges other service clubs to meet or beat their effort. Mrs. Smith, who is in charge of the program, said donations from individuals are coming in, both in cash and supplies. The mound of supplies behind the group is growing, but still more is needed to make a happy start for the school year for all county children. For more information or to donate, call Mrs. Smith at 903-843-4100.
