Six plead guilty

Six guity pleas were entered in 115th District Court in Gilmer between Dec. 5 and Dec. 9, with Judge Lauren Parish presiding.

As reported in the Dec. 10 edition of The Mirror, a drug dealer, Kirk Douglas Bolton, 56, of Gilmer received a life sentence in a jury trial.

Another man, Gary Dwon Gaffney II, 26, of Henderson received a 20-year sentence for attempted burglary of a habitation, following a jury trial. Both men had pled not guilty.

Those entering guilty pleas included:

• Kevin Ray Jones, 34, of Gilmer. He received two years in a state jail for possessing a controlled substance, a state jail felony, and also received two years in prison for the third-degree felony of bail jumping and failure to appear. The sentences will be served concurrently.

Upshur County District Attorney Billy Byrd prosecuted the cases, and Scott Novy was defense attorney.

• Bryan Keith Read, 17, Gilmer, received two yars deferred adjudication probation for burglary of a building, a state jail felony. Terms of probation include paying court costs, a $500 fine, and 300 hours of community service.

Byrd was prosecutor, and Matthew Patton was defense attorney.

• Timothy Scott Lantz, 42, Daingerfield, received two years in a state jail, probated for four years, for the state jail felony of possession of a controlled substance.

Conditions of probation included a $1,500 fine, and 400 hours of community service. Assistant District Attorney Edward Choy was prosecutor, and Novy was defense attorney.

• Brittany Shea Dickson, 23, Longview, received four years deferred adjudication probation for the state jail felony of burglary of a building.

Conditions of probation include a $1,500 fine and performing 400 hours of community service.

Choy was prosecutor, and Patton was defense attorney.

In addition, a 44-year-old Gilmer man received a year in a state jail, probated for two years, for the Class A misdemeanor offense of driving while intoxicated.

Conditions of probation include a $750 fine and performing 200 hours of community service. He must also go to DWI repeat offender school.

Choy was prosecutor, and David Griffith was defense attorney.
