Xavier Johnson and Summer Styles, both Union Hill High School seniors, have been selected to participate in the “Heart of a Champion Bowl” scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on June 9 at Longview Lobo Stadium.

The Northeast Texas Fellowship of Christian Athletes is the organization sponsoring the game and its mission is threefold — honor God, raise support for the FCA, and showcase the outstanding coaches, players and cheerleaders in Northeast Texas.

One hundred and ten of the best players, coaches and cheerleaders from the area have been selected for this game.

There will be a blue team and red team.

Johnson has been selected to play on the defensive line for the red team.

Del Barnes, Henderson quarterback, will lead the team. Also playing with this talent-ridden group will be Dontra Halton, a running back from Kilgore.

Coaches for the team will include Coach Dereck Rush of Tyler John Tyler and Coach Dickey Meeks of Henderson.

The blue team will be lead by quarterback Avery Saenz of the State Champion Chapel Hill Bulldogs. Also participating on this team will be Deontre Wilson, a running back from the Longview Lobos.

Coach Mike Meador of Lindale and Andy Evans of Tatum will be some of the coaches for this team.

Xavier, son of Rhonie and Shelia Johnson of Gilmer, is at the top of his class at Union Hill High School, with a 3.9 GPA.

He was outstanding as offensive and defensive lineman for the Bulldogs and has an offer to play for Harvard, but is still undecided about the college he will attend.

He is active in football, basketball and track.

He attends Murray League Baptist Church in Ore City, where he is involved in the choir and ministry.

Summer, daughter of Tina Styles of Gilmer and Grayford Styles of Pittsburg, was chosen to cheer for the red team.

She has a 3.76 GPA at Union Hill High School and is second in her class.

She is head cheerleader for the Bulldogs and has been a cheerleader for four years.

She is vice president of her class and vice president of the student council.

She attends First Baptist Church in Gilmer, where she is considered a role model for young women and exhibits a positive attitude toward life.

The group will have a banquet on April 16 and former Dallas Cowboy Chad Henning it the scheduled keynote speaker for the event.
