The Gilmer Buckeyes proudly

took first place in the varsity boys’ events in the Buckeye Relays Friday, March 9.

The Junior Varsity boys’ team placed second to Sulphur Springs while the girls finished sixth.

The Tankersly Relays for junior high track teams scheduled for Thursday, March 8, was

canceled due to weather.

In the varsity boys division, Gilmer finished first in the track events with 89 points, Paris was second with 76, and Carthage third with 69. Also participating in the meet were (4) Tatum 64, (5) Lindale 52, (6) Sulphur Springs, (7) Spring Hill 26, (8) Henderson 19, and (9)Quitman 6.

In the junior varsity events, Sulphur Springs finished first with 106 points, Gilmer second with 97, and Henderson

third with 75. Paris was fourth with 50, Carthage fifth with 46, Lindale sixth with 37, Tatum seventh with 13, and Spring Hill with 10 points was eighth.

Spring Hill captured the girls’ division with 116 points, Lindale second at 104, and the other teams trailed far behind. They included: (3) Tatum 48; (4) Carthage 47; (5) Henderson 45; (6) Gilmer 38, and (7) Paris 28.

In the varsity boys’ events, Gilmer won by capturing a series of second places, especially in the three relay events. Gilmer was second to Carthage in the 4 X 100 M relay, second to Paris in the 4 X 200 M relay, and second to Carthage in the 4 X 400 M relay.

Reynoso was second in the 3200 meter run and fourth in the 1600 meter run.

Gilmer place three runners in the 200 M dash: Williams, 4th; Boyd 5th; and McDonald 6th.

Boyd was second in 10.91 seconds and McDonald fourth in 11.1 seconds in the 100 M dash.

Washington was sixth in the 110 M hurdles and in the 300 M Hurdles.

Shelton picked up third in the 800 meter run.

Among the JV boys, Pollard was first in 16.25 and Tarrant second (16 93) in the 110 M Hurdles, while Thomas was first

(11.58) and Williams second (11.8) in the 100 meter dash.

Thomas also captured first in the 200 meter dash in 23.24 with Johnson fourth (24.3) and Williams fifth (24.54.)

In the distance events, Smith finished second in the 3200 M run in 11:17.3 and sixth in the 1600 meter event.

The Gilmer girls placed fourth in the 4 X 100 M relay in 51.13, third in the 4 X 200 M relay in 1:49.7, and third in the 4 X 400 M relay in 4:23:3.

The Lady Buckeyes also picked up points with White’s sixth-place finish in the 400 M dash (1:06.3) and Johnson’s fourth in the 200 M dash (27.02.)
