Dr. Shirley McKellar, who is unopposed for the Democratic Party nomination for the District 1 Congressional seat now held by U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tyler), will appear at a public campaign reception in Gilmer Saturday.

The event, sponsored by Upshur County Democrats, is set from 5-7 p.m. at the Disabled American Veterans post on U.S. 271,. across from Walmart. Dr. McKellar will speak at 6 p.m., said Upshur Democratic spokeswoman Ann Glenn.

Gohmert, who is seeking reelection, has only part of Upshur County in his district under the new Congressional redistricting plan. He currently represents the entire county. U.S. Rep. Ralph Hall (R-Rockwall), also seeking reelection, has the rest of the county in his new District 4, and will be on the ballot in part of the county.

Libertarian Party candidates are also running in both Congressional races this November. Clark Patterson is running in District 1, Thomas Griffings in District 4.
