The broad range of dance skills of the Kilgore College Dance Department can be seen at the department’s annual Spring Dance Concert, set for 8 p.m. Friday, May 4, in Van Cliburn Auditorium on the Kilgore campus.
“The concert will offer a variety of dance styles and techniques,” said Cathy Beckman, dance instructor. “It will give dance students the opportunity to display their talent and show what they have accomplished in the ballet, tap, jazz and modern dance classes taught at KC.”
The choreography is a collaboration of the students and instructors: Cathy Beckman for ballet, modern dance technique, improvisation/composition and performance; and Shelley Wayne for tap and jazz.
“The students in the modern dance classes get to explore new ways to approach choreography that expresses a more personal point of view as well as using ideas they have learned about dance in different cultures,” Beckman said. “The production course enables students to create and perform in a concert that is part of the transfer program for students who will be continuing their dance training at a university.”
The Dance Department at KC offers a curriculum that includes ballet, tap and jazz,
modern dance, improvisation and composition, dance appreciation and performance.
Tickets are $10, $5 for students with KC identification.
Tickets will go on sale at 7 p.m. the night of the performance at the auditorium box office.
Tickets can be purchased by cash or check only – no credit cards accepted.
