Longview, Texas-Today, Tommy Merritt continued to build momentum in his grassroots campaign by block-walking in Longview and visiting with East Texas voters and discussing issues that matter greatly to his community. "It's great to be out the community and I'm honored by the warm welcome we've received in every community that we have walked in. I'm proud of my record of service for East Texas and look forward to meeting with more and more voters daily."

Since Merritt is the only native East Texan in the race, he noted "I'm not introducing myself to this district; I was born and raised here. I'm making sure that the voters understand how important this election is. As I listen to the voters when I block-walk through these neighborhoods, I am reminded of what the real priorities are for our district. I will push to make the natural gas that we produce here a viable energy alternative in order to create jobs in East Texas.”

“I will work to remove mandates from classrooms so teachers are able to educate the next generation of Texas leaders. I will ensure that our seniors are protected and that our veterans’ proud legacy is honored.”

Tommy Merritt is a native East Texan and during his tenure in Texas Legislature he served as the Chairman of the House Committee on Energy Resources as well as the House Committee on Public Safety.
