Mount Vernon Music has announced that this year’s Young Artists Showcase, planned for May 20, has been canceled. Ute Miller, treasurer and chair of the Scholarship Committee, cited an especially low number of applicants for either the scholarship or a chance to perform at the annual event. “We’ll be looking for more collaboration with music educators as we reassess how to do this in the future,” she said. “Most school music teachers we know, whether they are band, choir or orchestra directors, are swamped this time of year.
