Scholarship will be endowed Friday in memory of Karl F. Edmonds

Kilgore College will receive a newly endowed scholarship during a short ceremony on Friday, May 18, in memory of longtime Kilgore businessman Karl F. Edmonds.

The presentation is set for 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 18, in the faculty lounge on the second floor of the McLaurin Administration Building on the Kilgore campus.

Edmonds was a 1957 graduate of Kilgore High School and attended the University of Texas.

He served as a medic in the United States Air Force Reserve at Barksdale Air Force Base from 1962 to 1968, and was active all his life in the oil business and the development of Karl F. Edmonds, Inc.

Edmonds served as an officer and on the board of directors for several organizations, including the Gregg County Jaycees, KEDC and several banks.

Edmonds’ widow, Janie, will be on hand for the presentation of the $15,000 donated toward the “Karl F. Edmonds Memorial Scholarship.”

“Karl always wanted to make a difference in students’ lives and Janie wants to help carry on that legacy with this scholarship,” said Leah Gorman, KC’s director of development.
