AUSTIN — Daven Murphree, representing the Harmony Eagles, won his second Class 2A pole-vaulting state championship with a winning vault of 16 feet 7 inches on Friday at the state track and field meet.

The meet was held at Mike Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.

Murphree out-distanced his nearest opponent by a full foot and one inch. His winning height is a new personal record, as well as a new school record. He tried unsuccessfully on three attempts at 17 ft., 1 in.

Murphree, a junior, has one more year of eligibility for his high school career. In addition to his prowess in track and field, he is also a starter and defensive mainstay on the Eagle football team.
