The Officials Committee found that the challenge brought by Mrs. Ridgeway to a delegation headed by county GOP Chairman Ken Ambrose met the procedural requirements to be referred to the other committee, she said.
Two warring segments of the Upshur GOP held separate county conventions April 21, with Mrs. Ridgeway presiding over one and Ambrose over the other.
She has challenged the state delegation elected from his convention—which, ironically, included her—on grounds that the convention called by Ambrose did not comply with the Texas Election Code nor state GOP rules.
The party’s state convention is June 7 to 9 in Ft. Worth. Mrs. Ridgeway would head the delegation elected from her April 21 county convention if that delegation is seated.
Ambrose declined comment recently on Mrs. Ridgeway’s announcement that she would challenge his delegation. He was not immediately available for comment Tuesday on the Officials Committee’e decision.
He is opposed for reelection in Tuesday’s GOP primary by Mrs. Ridgeway, a precinct chairman, and Chuck Mears.
