LONGVIEW — KYKX 105.7 Sports, of the East Texas Radio Group, announced the schedule for the inaugural season of the KYKX Saturday Night Game of the Week.
Harlen The Sports Guy, Sports Director, East Texas Radio Group announced this year’s lineup at a press conference held in the press box at Lobo Stadium on the campus of Longview High School. Eight schools have agreed to a 2-year deal to play their normally scheduled Friday games on Saturday night at Lobo Stadium. All the games will be broadcast on KYKX 105.7 FM (as well as kykx.com) by Harlen and his on-air partner, Pigskin Bob.
This is something that Bob and I have worked on for two to three years,” Harlen said. “We wanted to bring some of the great games played each week, to a night and a stadium that everyone could enjoy.”
Three of the four games scheduled include teams from Upshur County.
This year’s scheduled games are as follows:
Week 4, Sept. 29, Ore City Rebels vs. Hughes Springs Must angs
Week 5, Oct. 6, Arp Tigers vs. West Rusk Raiders
Week 6, Oct. 13, Henderson Lions vs. Gilmer Buckeyes
Week 8, Oct. 27, Jefferson Bulldogs vs. Harmony Eagles
The 2013 schedule will be the same teams playing on the same UIL week, with this year’s visiting team being next year’s home team.
Harlen said that one additional game would likely be added later this summer. “We are talking to several schools and coaches who are interested. We are planning on one additional game for UIL weeks 0, 1, 2, 3 or 9.”
In 2014 Harlen and Bob plan to expand the schedule to 10 weeks.
Each school will be selling tickets for their game, and fans will be able to purchase tickets at the Lobo Stadium ticket office on the night of the game.
