Volunteer Texan families needed to host high school exchange students
Educational Merit Foundation (EMF) a not-for-profit Texas organization that promotes global learning
and leadership through foreign exchange as well as study abroad programs for high school students, is
looking for volunteer families interested in housing foreign exchange students during the 2012-13
school year.
"Sharing the American experience with an international student is a unique opportunity for the average
American family to profoundly impact the life of a teenager and provide them with a positive, unique
experience that they will remember for the rest of their lives," said EMF Program Director Marie-
Claude Dijoud in a news release. " By sharing their normal daily life, host families are in a great position
to show international exchange students what it means to be a teenager in America and give them an
authentic slice of American life."
EMF foreign exchange students come from France & Germany, are fully insured, bring their own
spending money and are fluent in the English language. They expect to be treated like a family member
not a guest and to share their host family’s daily life including household responsibilities.
"Texan host families are the heart and soul of EMF's foreign exchange program," added Ms. Dijoud.
"Texan families have been hosting EMF exchange students for the last 20 years, and the experience has
been life changing for the students, who blossom in the local communities through support from the
families and schools."
Host families must complete an application as well as pass a criminal background check and a home
visit by an EMF Local coordinator.
