Members of the New Diana FFA Shooting Team traveled to San Antonio June 4 and 5 to participate in the 5th annual Texas Parks and Wildlife Department-sponsored State Ag Clays Shooting Event for FFA members across the state.

The event was held at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, which is the national headquarters for the National Sporting Clays Association and the National Skeet Shooters Association.

This is the second year that the complex in San Antonio has hosted the state FFA shoot. This year’s event drew nearly 50 schools and almost 600 shooters.

This event is open to any high school FFA member that is a dues-paying member of the National FFA Association, successfully completed the Texas Hunters Education Certification, and has completed or is currently enrolled in the Agri-Science 381 Wildlife class or the New Wildlife, Fish, and Ecology Management Agri-Science course that started last school year.

The New Diana FFA Shooting Team came away with three State Championship Team Awards and one Individual State Championship Award.

The all-female team won its second straight championship in the Trap shooting event.

They competed with ten other teams shooting a team score of 279 out of 300 targets. Miranda Wilder shot a 97, which won her the second straight top female shooter trophy. Caitlin Ross shot a 95, which placed her second overall in the female division.

Kimmy Hendricks shot a score of 87 and Louann Peacock shot a 74. In the male division New Diana Shooters scored a 277 with 35 teams competing.

The team finished in 4th place, with Rollen Robertson shooting a second-high individual score of 99. Ross Powell scored a 93, Tanner Young shot a score of 85, and Levi Price shot a score of 81.

The Mixed Gender Team of Rollen Robertson, Miranda Wilder, Ross Powell and Caitlin Ross won the State Championship for that division with a score of 291 targets out of 300.

There were 22 mixed-gender teams competing in Trap shooting.

The same New Diana shooters came back the second day of competition in the Sporting Clays division.

The team shot a score of 266 to win its third State Team Championship of the event, along with the individual high- point trophy that Wilder won in trap.

Rollen Robertson placed 4th overall high shooter in sporting clays with a score of targets for male shooters.

Miranda Wilder placed third overall female shooter in sporting clays.
