The East Texas Youth Chorus and East Texas Community Chorus are seeking singers for this fall.

About the East Texas Youth Chorus:

The East Texas Youth Chorus is comprised of high school-aged home-schooled youth, and will rehearse in Kilgore College’s Anne Dean Turk Fine Arts Building in Kilgore each Wednesday from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., beginning Aug. 29.

Directed by Dr. Jim Taylor, Director of Choral Activities at KC, the ETYC is open boys and girls of at least 13 years of age that meet certain vocal criteria (boys’ voices must be fully changed).

Singers must demonstrate in a brief audition that they can carry a tune.

Tuition is $50 which covers costs of music and folder, accompanist, director, rehearsal hall and performances.

Registration will take place at the rehearsal room the first day of rehearsal.  Students may join the chorus through the first four rehearsals.

“The chorus offers home-schooled youth a significant arts component to their curriculum, and the opportunity to sing great music with friends in a challenging and fun setting,” Taylor said.  “Students are offered the opportunity to add a fine arts component to their home-school curricula by performing choral literature of different styles and developing vocal and choral skills that prepare them for college-level performance.”

Taylor said section leaders from the KC Chorale will assist the chorus, provide vocal support and serve as role models for the students.

The ETYC will present its fall concert 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Longview.

“The concert will feature musical styles ranging from classical to popular, giving the students experience with a broad range of music that will prepare them for singing on the college level,” Taylor said.

To set up an audition time for the ETYC, e-mail Taylor at: jtaylor@kilgore.edu or call 903-983-8122.

The chorus is operated through the KC Continuing Education Department.

About East Texas Community Chorus:

The East Texas Community Chorus is open to all singers high school age and older, and will hold rehearsals from 7 to 9 p.m. each Monday at First United Methodist Church in downtown Longview beginning Aug. 27.

Potential singers are invited to come to one of the first two Monday night rehearsals.

Tuition for the chorus is $60.  The chorus can be taken for college credit by registering through the college.

The chorus will hold two concerts this fall.

The first concert is set for Sept. 29 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Longview.  The concert will feature “Schubert’s Mass No. 2 in G” performed with the Longview Symphony Orchestra.

The second concert is set for Nov. 20 at FUMC Longview.

The ETCC is run through the KC Continuing Education Department, and is directed by Dr. Jim Taylor.

“My vision is for the ETCC to create truly artistic music for the Kilgore/Longview area,” Taylor said. “I want to provide enthusiastic singers an opportunity to sing repertoire beyond the reach of the church choir, and to be a place of inspiration where local music professionals can participate and get recharged.”

For more information about the ETCC, e-mail Taylor at: jtaylor@kilgore.edu or call 903-983-8122.
