Paper is going out of style. With growing technology paper is being used less and less. It is actually hurting the economy. The United States Postal Service recently defaulted on a $5.5 billion payment to the U.S. Treasury. People don’t send cards and letters the way they used to.
I used to love getting letters from my dad when he in the Army. I couldn’t wait to write him back and get my letter ready to go to the post office.
My mom would give me a quarter and I would go up to the counter and get my stamp. I remember that stamps were only fifteen cents and I would get a dime back. I loved licking the stamp and putting it in the corner. I wouldn’t mail the letter inside of the post office. I would get in the backseat of the car and my mom would drive to the big blue mail box and I would stick my body out the window and mail the letter.
I can’t remember the last time I wrote a letter.
Another paper that is going out of style is photo paper. We used to take pictures and have them processed and then place them in a big photo album. Now, people use their cell phones and post their pictures to social sites.
I have taken hundreds of pictures of my baby during his first six months. I then realized I had not printed any pictures. I took my son to a professional photographer recently and had pictures taken. I got the pictures back about a week later. I still haven’t cut the pictures or given any away. I blame social sites. I posted the pictures on line and the hard copy of the pictures went in a box.
The holidays are coming and people usually make their way to the post office to send off cards and gifts. However, I think we should make our way to the post office much more often. I send gifts all the time through the post office. However, I haven’t sent a just thinking of you card for a long time.
I plan to write a couple of letters this week and cut those professional pictures and send them off. I challenge you to compose a handwritten letter on paper this week also. I plan to send a couple of care packages off also. It will take less than an hour to bake and pack some pre-made cookie dough cookies. I am so excited to think about the look on my family’s face when the receive a priority mail box with cookies from me.
If you would like to make someone’s day, I highly suggest a simple trip to the post office.
