We have designed a human sized board game (similar to a huge Monopoly board) to prepare High School students for life after high school in the area of financial management.   It's called Budget Mania.

We are introducing the game to area high schools and colleges as a way to help introduce and train teens and young adults in financial literacy.  Select the pictures below to see a video of how the Budget Mania game is played. There is also a link to our website.

Preparing High Schoolers for Life after High School in a Fun, Unique Way

Data show that 46% of high school students will never gain a net worth over 10,000. 66% of parents have not taught their teens how to balance a checkbook or how credit cards interest and fees work. 20 to 30% of high schoolers will not graduate. When dropouts were polled 47% said classes were not interesting and 69% felt topics were not relevant. It will take a community effort to move these numbers in the right direction.

More attention needs to be given to preparing students for life once they leave high school especially in the area of financial literacy and money management. Whether the post-secondary path is college, trade school or employment these skills are lacking in our youth and must be addressed by parent, teachers, business owners and banks.

Some high school preparatory programs are tackling these issues, but finding the right curriculum mix is always a challenge. Many schools do not have a financial literacy program at all. One company, WIN Multimedia Designs, is taking a noble stab at addressing this issue by developing innovative learning tools.

Its newest is an interactive game called Budget Mania.  "Budget Mania" is all about math and money budgeting. It demonstrates the practical application of algebra in every day life and teaches players about managing a budget. It is a great resource to prepare students for life after high school as they transition to independent or dorm living.

With its unique human-sized board, players are the pawns as they walk around the board interacting with one another and the bankers. They have a blast playing this interactive game while learning about financial management and budgeting.

Top 6 Benefits of Budget Mania:

#1: Introduces students to a personal budget and shows how income variations effect their

            budget and cash flow.

#2: Awakens students to practical responsibilities associated with independent living and

            challenges them to live responsibly.

#3: Demonstrates in an upbeat way, the practical application of algebra in daily living.

#4: Supports financial literacy curriculums in high schools and colleges. Also maps to

              state curriculum requirements.

#5: A great fit for math classes, and math-based support programs such as AVID,

              GEER-UP, Upward Bound, etc.

#6: Mature students can run simulation; alleviating some of your daily tasks.

Players have 3 goals during game play.  They must,

1- Answer 3 Go Figure It questions,

These are algebra questions that relate to financial transactions students make

        on a daily basis.

2- Manage their personal financial budget by paying their monthly bills.

Students have a salary and a set of monthly bills. They must survive budget and cash

flow variations during the game and meet their bills.

3- Meet their savings goal and zero extra credit cards obtained.

Every player must place money in a saving account. The game only allows

players to keep one credit card with a balance (other cards must be cleared).

Budget Mania is definitely a tool you want to consider for your middle school, high school and college programs. More information can be found at www.winmds.com .  You can contact the company at 713.494.6996 for a free onsite demo.
