The prefixes affected are 790 and 256 (which in mainly north of Lake O’ the Pines, in the Ore City and Harleton areas).
A letter sent to Etex staff included the following information:
“Our customers will be able to visit any of their locations (excluding Wal Mart, they do their own promotions for VZW) during this period and receive special promotional offers.
“Or visit our locations as outlined below. Doing either will allow them to not have an ETF with Etex, and receive the special Verizon promotions:
“903-256-XXXX numbers will have to wait until Mar. 4 to begin porting their numbers. . . Those customers can get new numbers or wait until Mar. 4.”
The schedule for switch-over includes: Gilmer ETEX office (upstairs building C) Mon.-Sat. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This started Monday, Jan 28.
• Ore City location, Mon.-Thu., 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This also started Monday.
• Jefferson location, Mon.-Thu. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Starting Jan 28.
A letter posted on Etex Wireless’s web site states:
“ETEX would like to thank you for your loyal patronage to our company. We regret to announce as of March 11, 2013, ETEX will no longer provide mobile wireless services. Going forward, ETEX will continue to offer you the best products and services for landline phone, digital TV, Internet and broadband services.
“In order to provide for your future wireless needs, ETEX is pleased to announce it has entered into an agreement with Verizon Wireless, allowing you to take advantage of a special promotional offer exclusively for ETEX customers located in central Texas. Details of the special offer are enclosed with this letter.
“Additionally, please note the following important details:
“Special offer is available from Jan. 25 through March 11, 2013.
“Offer is available at Verizon Wireless stores and participating agent locations.
“To ensure that you experience uninterrupted continued use of your current phone number, it is highly recommended you switch to another service provider between Jan. 25 and March 11, 2013.
“For Customers with 903-256-XXXX numbers switching to Verizon Wireless, you can keep your current number by switching between March 4 and March 11, 2013.
“In addition to special pricing on certain devices, please note Verizon will waive the Activation Fee for switching service (up to $35 value!).
“ETEX will not charge an early termination fee on remaining contract agreements.
“ETEX will be turning off the wireless network on March 11, 2013. You must switch to another wireless carrier before that date to avoid any interruption in service.

Kellar said that due to Verizon’s business size and national presence, the switch-over will benefit Etex Cellular customers.
“They will have more plans and phone models available,” he said. “There should also be fewer dropped calls.”
He said Etex is keeping its transmission towers.
