With uncertainty of West Rusk scholarships, KC is affordable option for students making last-minute plans

With the uncertainty of scholarship money promised to West Rusk High School seniors, Kilgore College president Dr. Bill Holda said that the college is willing to help out these students or any other potential students in the area who are still considering enrolling in fall classes.

“We want to help any potential students in the area who haven’t made alternate plans and might be looking for a college to enroll in at the last minute,” Holda said. “In District Students can take 12 hours, pay for books and fees and still feasibly pay less than $1,000 per semester at KC.”

In-district tuition at KC, which includes West Rusk School District, is $684 for a 12-hour course load.  Out-of-district tuition for the same 12 hours is $1,488.

“One clarification to make is that there are no general tuition discounts,” Holda said. “There are only two ways legally we can give discounts on tuition. One is a differential tuition for specific higher-cost programs such as some of the allied health programs. Two, is the discount the KC Board can choose to give to dual credit students.”

Other than those two instances, Holda said KC is not legally allowed to give discounts to certain groups of students or individuals.

“Some scholarship aid is still available, however, for students who need assistance,” Holda said.

KC registration is underway for the fall semester and has two more orientation sessions left this summer on Friday, Aug. 9, and Tuesday, Aug. 13.

It is important that students sign up for these mandatory orientation sessions as soon as possible.

To sign up for orientation, visit www.kilgore.edu and click on the “Orientation” button.

Potential students also need to apply online to KC and make sure that all official transcripts have been sent to the KC registrar.

To apply online, visit www.kilgore.edu and click on the “Apply Now” button.

For information on how to send your transcripts to KC, call the registrar’s office at 903-983-8606.

Students who plan to attend KC in the fall and who have filled out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) also need to contact the financial aid department to make sure that aid is applied to their KC account.

The financial aid department at KC can be reached at 903-983-8210.
