With the only team ahead of them in most Class 3A state polls, Carthage, falling Friday night to Whitehouse, 63-39, Gilmer will almost certainly earn its first regular season No. 1 ranking in the AP poll since the 2009 season (when the Buckeyes last won a state championship).

On Friday night, Oct. 4, the Buckeyes will face a road test against the Chapel Hill Bulldogs, who won their District 16-3A opener Friday night over Henderson, 49-28.
