AN OLD OAK TREE on the southwest lawn of the Upshur County Courthouse is removed recently by Isaias Gonzales of Gonzales Tree Service. The tree, which can be seen in pictures of the old county courthouse which burned around 1936, was a victim of the drought of recent years, and presented a hazard due to dead limbs. Commissioners voted to have County Maintenance Supervisor Chuck Mears contract with a qualified low bidder to remove it. Next photo, Mears measures the stump, which was about 6-feet, 6-inches in diameter.
