Kilgore College will offer a one-day class for childcare providers, “Math for Littler Learners.”
The class is set for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, offering creative ideas and learning activities designed to cultivate young children’s learning abilities and encourage them to blossom intellectually.
The class will be held in the Bert E. Woodruff Adult Education Center, 220 N. Henderson Blvd., in Kilgore.
Tuition for the workshop is $35.
Four other early childhood workshops will be held this fall and next spring:
Literacy through Music: Nov. 9, 2013 and March 22, 2014. Childhood music and songs will be used to promote phonemic awareness in young children.
More than Nursery Rhymes: Feb. 15, 2014. Early childhood teachers will learn how to use nursery rhymes to enhance vocabulary, comprehension and literacy skills.
Math for Little Learners: April 12, 2014. Strategies to present math skills in ways that interest the very young will be presented within the framework of children’s developmental sequence.
Workshops are taught by Jo Beth Reeves. She has a M. A. in Early Childhood Education and was a kindergarten classroom teacher for 30 years.
