The Women’s Center of East Texas and the Upshur County District Attorney’s Office sponsored the event, to remember the 114 women killed by their domestic partners during the past year.
It was held in Gilmer, because Cheyenne Green of Gilmer was murdered Sept. 26.
Held in the Upshur County Jail under $1 million bond, charged with murder, is her ex-boyfriend Jonathan Ray Shepherd, who was the father of her infant son.
The names of all 114 women were read out loud during the ceremony.
Upshur County District Attorney Billy Byrd addressed the throng about his office’s efforts to protect women.
Speakers urged women were urged not to stay in a relationship just because the man says he loves you, but protect yourself and your children.
