Kilgore College looking for members for community, children’s choruses

The Kilgore College Children’s Chorus and East Texas Community Chorus are seeking singers for this spring.

 

 

 

About the Kilgore College Children’s Chorus:

 

The Kilgore College Children’s Chorus, comprised of boys and girls in 5th-8th grades, is accepting members through mid-February.

 

Rehearsals are set for 4:15 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays beginning Jan. 30 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 906 Padon St. in Longview.

 

Directed by Dr. Jim Taylor, director of choral activities at KC, the KCCC is open boys and girls who can demonstrate that they can carry a tune.  Boys’ voices must be unchanged.

 

Tuition is $125 with partial scholarships available thanks to Ana-Lab Corporation, General Dynamics, Texas Bank & Trust, Austin Bank and individual donors.

 

“This chorus enables children of East Texas to fall in love with music through enthusiastic and artistically expressive performances of choral music,” Taylor said.

 

The KCCC will perform in three concerts this spring at Trinity Episcopal Church in Longview: Winter Concert, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m.; Spring Concert, April 24 at 7 p.m.; and at the KC Masterworks Concert, “Mozart Requiem,” with the Longview Symphony April 29 at 7:30 p.m.

The chorus is operated through the KC Continuing Education Department.

 

 

 

About East Texas Community Chorus:

 

The East Texas Community Chorus is accepting members for the spring semester through mid-February.

 

Open to singers high school age and older, rehearsals are set for 7 to 9 p.m. each Monday at First United Methodist Church in downtown Longview beginning Feb. 3

 

Potential singers are invited to come to one of the first two Monday night rehearsals.

 

Tuition for the chorus is $60.  The chorus can be taken for college credit by registering through the college.

 

The chorus will have two concerts this spring: Spring Concert, 7:30 p.m. March 18 at Longview’s First United Church; and the KC Masterworks Concert, “Mozart Requiem,” with the Longview Symphony 7:30 p.m. April 29 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Longview.

 

The ETCC is run through the KC Continuing Education Department and is directed by Dr. Jim Taylor.

 

“My vision is for the ETCC to create truly artistic music for the Kilgore/Longview area,” Taylor said. “I want to provide enthusiastic singers an opportunity to sing repertoire beyond the reach of the church choir, and to be a place of inspiration where local music professionals can participate and get recharged.”

Dr. Jim Taylor, KC’s Director of Choral Activities, was a full-time music minister for 24 years.

 

He has conducted internationally and is a widely published composer of choral music. 

 

He leads with enthusiasm and humor, and knows how to bring the best out of a choral ensemble in a way that makes striving for artistic excellence an enjoyable experience that helps students grow in their musical skills.
