Gilmer Intermediate students compete in Model UN event

GILMER INTERMEDIATE’S Sixth Grade Novice group competed in the 2014 Middle School 3 Model United Nations Competition held at Region 7 in Kilgore on Jan. 23 and 24. The students represented the delegations of India, Somalia and Colombia. Students representing India include: Kaitlin Castro (head delegate), Jaici Pilcher, Morgan Hughes and Delaney Wilson. This delegation won third place in Maps, honorable mention best delegation in general assembly, and honorable mention best novice. Somalia’s delegation included: Kylie Jordan (head delegate), Makenzie Kitchell, Kadi Amaya, Molly Sullivan, Haden Freis and Halle Testa. This delegation won honorable mention in Maps. Colombia’s delegation included Nicholas Hamilton ( head delegate), Bonnie Clifton, Trae Hampton, Jessica Taber and Matthew Faggione. “They did an amazing job and I am so proud of them. The event occurred over a 2-day span. On day one, students wrote impromptu resolutions and debated in their small committees. On day two, students all debated together in the General Assembly,” added sponsor Jasmine Cunningham.
